In an exceptional feat, Toronto’s Natalie Spooner has been named the PWHL MVP and Forward of the Year. Spooner's commanding presence on the ice was evident as she led the league in scoring with 20 goals and seven assists. Her performance set a high bar, as she outperformed notable players such as New York’s Alex Carpenter and Montreal’s Marie-Philip Poulin.
What makes Spooner's accomplishments even more remarkable is her journey leading up to this season. After giving birth to her son at the end of 2022, she did not skate for six months prior to the season. Despite facing such challenges, including a knee injury during the playoff semifinals, Spooner’s resilience and determination shone through. "I probably wouldn't have thought that it would have gone this way," Spooner admitted. "I think I was just super grateful to be playing again, to be back on the team. I was just really excited to get back out there with the girls, but I never thought that I'd be able to have, I guess, as big of an impact as I was able to have with the team."
Toronto’s Triumphs Under Coach of the Year Troy Ryan
Adding to Toronto’s impressive season, Troy Ryan has been honored as Coach of the Year. Ryan's strategic leadership was instrumental in Toronto's success, guiding the team to a league-high of 47 points during the regular season. His tenure included an exceptional 11-game winning streak, underscoring his effective coaching prowess.
A Standout Goaltender: Kristen Campbell
Toronto’s recognitions don't end there; Kristen Campbell was named Goaltender of the Year. Campbell showed incredible consistency and skill between the pipes, achieving 16 wins and three shutouts throughout the season.
